Mental health matters—to actors, to creatives, to everyone, really. And still in 2025, mental health isn't always easy to talk about. We sidestep it, we make fun of it, we sugarcoat it, we self-medicate it, we push it to the end of the topics of discussion line because it's taboo, weird, unattractive, or shameful.
Mental health matters to me because I have spent much of my adult life working to build and maintain a healthy mind. I grew up knowing depression, knowing anxiety, and knowing self-destructive behavior. For a long time, I was scared and ashamed of these thoughts, these impulses, behaviors, and parts of myself.
Just like managing my diabetes and taking care of my physical health, caring for my mental health will be a lifelong journey. I'm ok with that. And I'm gonna talk about it.
